SURAH AL LAIL
(The Night)بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَى
(1) Wallaili izaa yaghshaa
By the night as it envelops
وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا تَجَلَّى(2) Wannahaari izaa tajalla
And by the day as it appears in brightness
وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَى(3) Wa maa khalaqaz zakara wal unthaa
And by Him Who created male and female
إِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتَّى(4) Inna sa'yakum lashattaa
Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes)
فَأَمَّا مَنْ أَعْطَى وَاتَّقَى(5) Fa ammaa man a'taa wattaqaa
As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him
وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنَى(6) Wa saddaqa bil husnaa
And believes in Al-Husna
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْيُسْرَى(7) Fasanu yassiruhoo lilyusraa
We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness)
وَأَمَّا مَنْ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنَى(8) Wa ammaa man bakhila wastaghnaa
But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient
وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنَى(9) Wa kazzaba bil husnaa
And gives the lie to Al-Husna
فَسَنُيَسِّرُهُ لِلْعُسْرَى(10) Fasanu yassiruhoo lil'usraa
We will make smooth for him the path for evil
وَمَا يُغْنِي عَنْهُ مَالُهُ إِذَا تَرَدَّى(11) Wa maa yughnee 'anhu maaluhooo izaa taraddaa
And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction)
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدَى(12) Inna 'alainaa lal hudaa
Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance
وَإِنَّ لَنَا لَلْآخِرَةَ وَالْأُولَى(13) Wa inna lanaa lal Aakhirata wal oolaa
And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world)
فَأَنْذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظَّى(14) Fa anzartukum naaran talazzaa
Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell)
لَا يَصْلَاهَا إِلَّا الْأَشْقَى(15) Laa yaslaahaaa illal ashqaa
None shall enter it save the most wretched
الَّذِي كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّى(16) Allazee kazzaba wa tawallaa
Who denies and turns away
وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْأَتْقَى(17) Wa sa yujannnabuhal atqaa
And Al-Muttaqun (the pious and righteous) will be far removed from it (Hell)
الَّذِي يُؤْتِي مَالَهُ يَتَزَكَّى(18) Allazee yu'tee maalahoo yatazakkaa
He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification
وَمَا لِأَحَدٍ عِنْدَهُ مِنْ نِعْمَةٍ تُجْزَى(19) Wa maa li ahadin 'indahoo min ni'matin tujzaaa
And have in his mind no favor from anyone for which a reward is expected in return
إِلَّا ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْأَعْلَى(20) Illab tighaaa'a wajhi rabbihil a 'laa
Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High
وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضَى(21) Wa lasawfa yardaa
He surely will be pleased (when he will enter Paradise)
