SURAH ASH SHAMS
(The Sun)بِسمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحمٰنِ الرَّحيمِ
Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem
وَالشَّمْسِ وَضُحَاهَا
(1) Wash shamsi wa duhaa haa
By the Sun and his (glorious) splendour
وَالْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَاهَا(2) Wal qamari izaa talaa haa
By the Moon as she follows him
وَالنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّاهَا(3) Wannahaari izaa jallaa haa
By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَاهَا(4) Wallaili izaa yaghshaa haa
By the Night as it conceals it
وَالسَّمَاءِ وَمَا بَنَاهَا(5) Wassamaaa'i wa maa banaahaa
By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure
وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَاهَا(6) Wal ardi wa maa tahaahaa
By the Earth and its (wide) expanse
وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّاهَا(7) Wa nafsinw wa maa sawwaahaa
By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it
فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَاهَا(8) Fa-alhamahaa fujoorahaa wa taqwaahaa
And its enlightenment as to its wrong and its right
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ زَكَّاهَا(9) Qad aflaha man zakkaahaa
Truly he succeeds that purifies it
وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ دَسَّاهَا(10) Wa qad khaaba man dassaahaa
And he fails that corrupts it
كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَاهَا(11) Kazzabat Samoodu bi taghwaahaaa
The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing
إِذِ انْبَعَثَ أَشْقَاهَا(12) Izim ba'asa ashqaahaa
Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety)
فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ نَاقَةَ اللَّهِ وَسُقْيَاهَا(13) Faqaala lahum Rasoolul laahi naaqatal laahi wa suqiyaahaa
But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah. And (bar her not from) having her drink
فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسَوَّاهَا(14) Fakazzaboohu fa'aqaroohaa fadamdama 'alaihim Rabbuhum bizambihim fasaw waahaa
Then they rejected him (as a false prophet), and they hamstrung her. So their Lord, on account of their crime, obliterated their traces and made them equal (in destruction, high and low)
وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَاهَا(15) Wa laa yakhaafu'uqbaahaa
And for Him is no fear of its consequences
