SURAH AL INSHIQAQ

(The Splitting Asunder)

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

(1) Izas samaaa'un shaqqat
When the sky is rent asunder,

(2) Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);

(3) Wa izal ardu muddat
And when the earth is flattened out,

(4) Wa alqat maa feehaa wa takhallat
And casts forth what is within it and becomes (clean) empty,

(5) Wa azinat li Rabbihaa wa huqqat
And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality).

(6) Yaaa ayyuhal insaanu innaka kaadihun ilaa Rabbika kad han famulaaqeeh
O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him.

(7) Fa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo biyameenih
Then he who is given his Record in his right hand,

(8) Fasawfa yuhaasabu hi saabai yaseeraa
Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning,

(9) Wa yanqalibu ilaaa ahlihee masrooraa
And he will turn to his people, rejoicing!

(10) Wa ammaa man ootiya kitaabahoo waraaa'a zahrih
But he who is given his Record behind his back,

(11) Fasawfa yad'oo subooraa
Soon will he cry for perdition,

(12) Wa yaslaa sa'eeraa
And he will enter a Blazing Fire.

(13) Innahoo kaana feee ahlihee masrooraa
Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing!

(14) Innahoo zanna al lai yahoor
Truly, did he think that he would not have to return (to Us)!

(15) Balaaa inna Rabbahoo kaana bihee baseeraa
Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him!

(16) Falaaa uqsimu bishshafaq
So I do call to witness the ruddy glow of Sunset;

(17) Wallaili wa maa wasaq
The Night and its Homing;

(18) Walqamari izat tasaq
And the Moon in her fullness:

(19) Latarkabunna tabaqan 'an tabaq
Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage.

(20) Famaa lahum laa yu'minoon
What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?

(21) Wa izaa quri'a 'alaihimul Quraanu laa yasjudoon (make sajda)
And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate,

(22) Balil lazeena kafaroo yukazziboon
But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it).

(23) Wallaahu a'lamu bimaa yoo'oon
But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts)

(24) Fabashshirhum bi'azaabin aleem
So announce to them a Penalty Grievous,

(25) Illal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati lahum ajrun ghairu mamnoon
Except to those who believe and work righteous deeds: For them is a Reward that will never fail.
